How We Started in Service

Steve: I started my service in 1993 with the Youth Mission for Parishes and Communities (YMPACT), the youth group of the Light of Jesus Community (now LOJF).  There, I joined the sisters and brothers in loving and serving the Lord in the infamous garage in Cubao, Quezon City, Philippines, and in various missions and activities.  However, in 1996, I had the opportunity to work outside the country.  I took with me what I have learned during those few years with the community which helped sustained me in my relationship with the Lord.  Through the years, I have attended different prayer groups and even thought of starting one but due to the nature of my work, I moved around a lot, the dream did not materialize and became dormant.

Confe: I started my service through the Singles group of the Light of Jesus Family (LOJF) in 2003.  I told my husband that before I seriously dedicated myself to service, I was just an attendee of The Feast in Camp Aguinaldo and attended YMPACT meetings irregularly.  We never met each other then. We never knew that God has a purpose for us through the mission of LOJF.  We got married in December 2010.

Our Journey at The Feast

Steve: It was at the PICC Feast in Manila, when one of our elders, Roy Pasimio, Head of the LOJF- International, asked my wife if we can start a Feast on the East Coast.  I just moved to the Southwestern part of the East Coast at that time and that’s where my wife was headed after completing her papers. When Confe arrived in the US, I was in doubt if it will be possible to start a Feast here, for I do not see too many Filipinos in our area.  Confe and I started praying about it.

When Bro. Roy informed us that he has plans of going to the East Coast, that’s the time when we started informing the few people we know about The Feast.  Some were interested, some were not.  Then we met a couple who told us that there are some Filipino families in the area.  That made us concentrate in our parish and decided also to approach our pastor (parish priest). We believe it was Divine guidance.

Bro. Roy sent us a couple of letters from our elder and founder of LOJF, Bo Sanchez, and the Archbishop of Cubao.  We showed it to our pastor, informing him of our intention of starting a prayer group and introducing the Light of Jesus Family. Our pastor is one of a kind, he is very approachable and nice.  But he did not give us an immediate answer, rather, that he was going to consult with the bishop first.  When Bro. Roy and Sis. Rorie came here, there were about 12 people whom we invited to attend the supposed to be a seminar, but as days passed by, they began backing out one by one.

Change of plan.  Instead,  Bro. Roy told us to just invite them to come over depending on their availability to introduce the Light of Jesus Family and watch a video of Bro. Bo’s talk.  That’s what we did.  Within a week of separate meet-ups with them every night, we had our first prayer group meeting in November 2012.  After a week or so, our pastor gave us permission to use one of the rooms in the parish hall. We moved into the parish on our second meeting.

Growing in Faith and Service

Confe: We will be turning 10 at The Feast this year (December 2022), and as we go back and look at our friends, brothers, and sisters in faith, it’s all worth it.  It gives us so much joy and fulfillment working and growing with them in our services.  Now, we have extended arms, legs, and lips in sharing the light of Jesus with others. However, not everything is perfect, we have so many ups and downs in our services.  But we offer everything and do the best we can to God.

We cannot do this alone.  We need guidance from God and help from our elders to continue.  Allow us to take this opportunity to thank our elders and mentors: Bo Sanchez, Roy, and Rorie Pasimio for their selfless love for this mission work, and our pastor, Fr. Gormley, and the parish staff, for all the love and support they gave us since our day one.  We are so honored to work with them and be under their care.

Dear friends, let us pray for one other.  Include us in your prayers as we keep you in our prayers.
